Tend The Flame - Day Retreat

Tend The Flame - Day Retreat

£111.00

Saturday, February 3rd, 2024

11:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Welcome to this one day sanctuary; a space for you to be with yourself, in community (a small group). Come to the peaceful countryside of North Oxfordshire for a day away from everything else in your life. We will move, talk, sing, walk, breathe, journal, be in the silence, share, rest, receive sound and nourishment.

For February we are exploring what it is to tend the flame as we emerge toward Spring. Still often frozen, signs of life are breaking through with Snowdrops and the celebration of Imbolc, the time in the celtic and pagan calendars that marks the halfway point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. This is when the old Irish godess Brigid was honoured - her association is particularly with poetry and artistry, prophesy and crafting/creating with our hands. Her flame (or at least, one held for the Catholic St.Bridget, often considered the reinterpreted version of the same) is still tended year round in Kildare, to ensure it never flickers away. Brigid is known as the first keening woman - the Scottish and Irish mourning a tradition of wailing for the dead. As in many lineages, those who tend the passage of the dying also tend to the arrival of life and Brigid is known also as one to be called upon for midwifery and newborns. The fire of Brigid is said to burn eternal and drops no ash; it is only women who tend this fire.

Our journey will likely involve movement practices to ignite and tend the inner fires, connecting with our creativity and finding the opportunity to write and share the wisdom of our hearts. We might create a Brighid cross each if that feels appropriate. Our day together falls just after Imbolc, you may want to connect into the energy beforehand and if you’re signed up by January 30th I’ll share some resources for you to do so.

While there is a theme and the possibility of journalling and being with this, you are always invited to simply BE - no agenda or process, just time out for yourself.
